Meet the Maker – Francis van Wyk
Hi, I’m Francis – a wife, mother, chemist-turned-mumpreneur, and passionate soap maker.
Originally from South Africa, I now call Doha, Qatar, my home. As an expat, I’ve fallen in love with the desert, the summer heat, and the enchanting Arabian culture.
With MSc Chemistry and MBA degrees, years of corporate management experience, and success in multiple online businesses, I decided in 2019 to take a break from the digital grind. Spending 18-hour days in front of a computer screen left me craving something more hands-on, something creative yet scientific.
That’s when I discovered soap making.
A Journey from Science to Soap
I started with copying some soap recipes from the internet. However my first batches of soap felt completely off balance, and I quickly realized that soapmaking is both an art and a science.
Determined to get it right, I used my chemistry background to study the science behind soapmaking.
Through extensive trial and error, I developed my own unique formulations — perfectly balanced, deeply moisturizing, and wonderfully foaming.
That’s when soap making became my passion, and soon, my purpose.
Why Handmade Soap?
Before diving into soapmaking, I never realized how harmful commercial soaps could be.
Many aren’t even real “soap”—they’re synthetic detergents loaded with harsh chemicals!
As I learned more, I made a commitment: I would create soaps as natural and organic as possible. That’s why I ONLY use essential oils for fragrance—never artificial fragrance oils.
